"Everything I learned about painting I learned from the great Expressionist painter, Joseph Solman.  It took me a few long years before my work evolved to the point where I was not simply "channeling" Solman.  Now, forty plus years since then, I find myself returning to where I began.  If you know Solman's work, you will see that I don't paint in his style but  I believe that everything he taught me continues to inform my work in many ways.  I admit that the two styles are constantly fighting for my attention and, while difficult to resolve at times, this inner conflict has resulted in some pretty interesting paintings over the years."
